Fractures, which are breaks in the continuity of a bone, often present with several key signs and symptoms. Deformity is a primary indicator; the affected limb may appear out of shape or misplaced due to the bone's abnormal positioning. Swelling is common as surrounding tissues become inflamed from the injury. Pain is typically intense, both at the site of the fracture and when attempting to move the affected area, reflecting the body's protective response to injury. Inability to move the affected area can occur because of severe pain or damage to surrounding structures, which may limit mobility.
